Sha’ban Al-Mu’azzam – The Holy Month of Sha’ban

Tonight (Wednesday Night) is the 1st Night of the Holy Month of Sha’ban Al-Mu’azzam according to the Calendar of Grandshaykh and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim and the Islamic World including Turkey, Syria, Saudi Arabia and all the Arab countries.

Here are all the Adabs and Awrads associated with this holy month extracted from Mawlana Shaykh Adnan’s Book “Futuhat Al-Haqqaniyah”

The Virtues of Sha’ban Al’-Mu’azzam – The Month of Sayyidina Muhammad

Narrated From Sayyiditina Aisha Umm’ul Mumineen RA, “ The most beloved month to the Prophet (s) is Sha’ban.

The Prophet (s) said, “Sha’ban will guard you from Hellfire. Who wants to meet me should fast three days from Sha’ban.”

The Prophet (s) said, “ Sha’ban is my month and Ramadan is my nation’s month. Sha’ban is the expiator and Ramadan is the Purifier.”

The Prophet (s) said, “ Who fasts the first Thursday of Sha’ban and the last Thursday of Sha’ban, Allah will entrusted him to enter Paradise.”

Sayyidina Anas RA asked the Prophet (s), “ What is the best fasts after Ramadan?” The Prophet (s) replied, “Sha’ban.”

Sha’ban is a great month and there is a holy night called Laylat’ul Bara’ah which is on the 15th Night of Sha’ban. Sayyidina Abu Hurayra RA narrated from The Prophet (s) said. “ The ArchAngel Jibreel (AS) came to me on the 15th night of Sha’ban and said.” “ Yaa Muhammad, raise your head to the Heavens.” “I said what is this night?” JIbreel replied. “In this night Allah opens three hundred doors of Mercies, forgives all people except the ones who associate partners with Allah, sorcerers or fortune-tellers or those who insist on committing adultery or addicted to drinking wine.

The Prophet (s) said,  “Allah looks at His Creation on the 15th night of Sha’ban and forgives all creation except the polytheist and the hassler.

On the 15th day of Sha’ban, The Jinn, birds, beasts and the whales of the Oceans fast on this day.

The Fuqaha have said that Allah Almighty has revealed Laylat’ul Bara’ah to be the night of Judgement and Command where its decided in it the lifespan of a person for the following year and raising of deeds of a person.

Allah Almighty has put a lot of Goodness specifically on four nights of the Year:

  • Laylat’ul Bara’ah – 15th Night of Sha’ban
  • Layat’ul Eid Al-Fitr – 1st Shawwal
  • Laylat’ul Eid Al-Adha – 10th Dhu’l Hijjah
  •  Laylat’ul Arafah – 9th Dhu’l Hijjah

Allah Almighty has hidden Layalt’ul Qadr (Night of Power) as a cause of mercy and as a salvation from the Fire and hidden the night so they won’t speak

In a Sahih Hadith from Sayyiditina Aisha RA said the Prophet (s) fasts the whole month of Sha’ban.

  • With the Intention for Rizq/sustenance, ask Allah to make it easy for you, and that  you are dependent on Him, and not on creation, for your rizq.

  •  Recite Nisf’ul Sha’ban dua after each recitation of Surah Yaseen

Allahumma ya dhal manni la yamannu ‘alayhi ahad, ya Dhal Jalali wal Ikram, ya dhat Tawli wal In’am. La ilaha illa Anta. Zaharal laji’een, wa Jarul mustajireen, wa amanul kha’ifeen.

Wa sallAllahu ‘ala Sayyidina Muhammadin wa ‘ala alihi wa sahbihi wa sallam.

O Allah, Tireless Owner of Bounty. O Owner of Sublimity, Honor, Power, and Blessings. There is no God except You, the Support of the refugees and Neighbor of those who seek nearness, and Guardian of the fearful.

O Allah, if you have written in Your Book that I be abject, deprived, banished, and tight-fisted, then erase O Allah, through Your bounty, my misery, deprivation, banishment, and stinginess. And establish me with You as happy, provided with blessings, for surely You have said—and Your Word is True—in Your Revealed Book on the tongue of Your Messenger, “Allah eliminates or confirms what He wills, and with Him is the Mother of the Book.” (Holy Quran, The Thunder 13:39)

My God, by the Great Manifestation of the Night of the middle of the Noble Month of Sha’ban “in which every affair of wisdom is made distinct and authorized,“ (Holy Quran 44:4) remove from us calamities—those we know and those we do not know, and You know best—for surely You are the Most Mighty, the Most Generous. May Allah bless Muhammad (saws), and his Family, and his Companions.

  • Then One makes Du’a with Grandshaykh’s Ad Dua Ul ‘Azam’ul Mathur if it is easy, after each recitation or is not, one time after the three recitations.
  1. Khatm’ul Khawajghan
  2. Pray Salat’ul Ishaa with all the Awrad. i.e Surah Mulk
  3. 4 Rakats of Salat ‘ul Tasabeeh
  4. 2 Rakats of  Salatu Shukr with Qunut invocation

Grandshaykh and Mawlana always prayed these 100 rakats on 15th Sha’ban and 27th Ramadan for the honour of this night. If one is unable to pray the full 100 Rakats may do as many as they can and intend on the intention of Grandshaykh Abdullah al-Faiz Dagestani and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim al Haqqani in honour of celebrating the Mawlid of Prophet (s). Insha’Allah by this intention, whatever the shaykhs have intended and done will be written for you and Angels will complete on your behalf. The Key is the sincere intention from the heart.

  •  Pray Salat’ul Tahajjud : consists of 100 Rak’ats

In the first raka’at, read 1 Surah Al-Fatihah , 2 Surah Al-Ikhlas Shareefa

In the second raka’at, read 1 Surah Al-Fatihah ,1 Surah Al-Ikhlas Shareefa

In this way, you complete the 100 raka’ats, and 150 Surah Al Ikhlas. You may prayer 50 sets of 2 raka’at prayers, or 25 sets of 4 raka’at prayers, though the first option is better. You may  prepare a matchbox with 50 matches, and after each 2 raka’at prayer, he would remove one matchstick. When the box is empty, you would have completed the 100 raka’at prayer.

  • Have Suhoor and intend to fast 15th day of Sha’ban on the intention of Grandshaykh and Mawlana celebrating Mawlid of RasoolAllah (s).
  • Rest until 1 hour before Fajr to Pray Salaat’ul Najaat and make Sajdah after Taslim. In this Sajdah, Allah Almighty will accept any dua made during this sajdah and your soul will be presented to Prophet (s) and all Awliyaa who will dress you in their heavenly blessings.

Safar Awrad

From Al-Futuhat al-Haqqaniyyah by Shaykh Adnan Kabbani:

  1. Shahadatain (3 times).
  2. Astaghfirullah (300 times).
  3. Give Sadaqah daily for the sake of Allah Almighty with the intention to lift away afflictions and misfortunes. It is a good practice, as done by Grandshaykh ‘Abdullah q.s., to make Qurban on the 27th day of Safar for the sake of Allah Almighty.
  4. Every day recite Surah Al-Fil (7 times) and Ayat al-Kursi (7 times).

On the final Wednesday of Safar, keep to the following adab:

  1. Shahadatain (3 times).
  2. Astaghfirullah (300 times).
  3. Ayat al-Kursi (7 times).
  4. Surah Al-Fil (7 times), reading them all upon oneself and for one’s family.

It is desirable to refrain from going out of one’s house on that day. If one should go out, keep to the adab and make haste to return home when one’s needs have been met. Grandshaykh q.s. said: “On the final Wednesday of the month of Safar, 70,000 afflictions (bala’) befall the world. The one who keeps to this adab that we mentioned, he will be protected by Allah Almighty.”

The Prayer of Love – Salat’ul Hubb

Prayer of Love

Taught by Shaykh Adnan Kabbani last Ramadan, and an amanah to us from our beloved Shaykh Raja Ashman Shah (q).

Last Ramadhan, our much-loved Shaykh Adnan Kabbani spent the first ten blessed days of Ramadhan in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with Maulana’s mureeds. Despite suffering from excruciating back pain, he valiantly continued to spend time with the mureeds, even giving us up to three Suhbahs on certain days and the many Jewels that were revealed in the Suhbahs during those ten beautiful days, took our breath away. Terawih prayers with him and our late Shaykh Raja Ashman Shah (q), was heavenly and surreal.

One of those priceless Jewels shared with us,was this special prayer, that Maulana Shaykh Nazim had instructed mureeds to do, a special hajat prayer, to pray for Shaykh Adnan’s safety and health, during his approaching spine operation that Ramadhan. Shaykh Adnan later revealed that this special hajat prayer, was also known as Solat Sunnatul Hubb, the Prayer of those seeking Divine Love, and it was one of the hidden deeds of Awliya who did it before doing Muroqabah to their Master, just before Fajr time..

In the days before his sudden passing, Shaykh Raja Ashman spoke of how, many mureeds had forgotten and neglected this prayer, and how important it was for us to do this prayer regularly, as it was the prayer of one who sought nothing, but His Love. In a poignant and tearful Suhbah given at his Maqam the day of his passing, Shaykh Bahauddeen Adil said that Shaykh Raja Ashman himself proved it, by living only for the Love of Maula, not Dunia, despite having Dunia at his feet. He never looked once at this carcass we call Dunia, his eyes were firmly fixed on attaining Divine Love.

It is with this intention in mind, that is, to revive the performance of this prayer, that this short reminder to myself and all lovers, has been posted. In the coming days, we shall post more from the Jewels that Shaykh Adnan Kabbani and our much-missed Shaykh Raja Ashman Shah (q), had shared with mureeds.

How to perform it

Below is the ‘Solatul-Hubb’ or the ‘Prayer of Love’ that Shaykh Adnan Kabbani taught, it is done just prior to Muraqabah, before Fajr prayers.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazim also says that is a special Solat Hajat that we can do when a need arises.

It is very similar to solatul tasabih, but instead of a 4 raka’at prayer that Sunnat tasabih is, this sunnat prayer is only 2 raka’ats long.

  1. In the first raka’at, before reciting Surah Fatihah, recite ‘Subbuhun Qudduusun, Robbuna wa robbul malaikati warruuh’, fifteen times. Recite it ten times after reading the surah, & ten times in ruku’, ten times in i’tidal, ten times in sujud, ten times while sitting & ten times in sujud again, making 75 times in the that first raka’at. It is best to read two Surah Ikhlas after Fatihah in that raka’at.
  2. In the second raka’at, before reciting Surah Fatihah, recite Selawat/ Darood Shareef, fifteen times. Recite it ten times after reading the surah, & ten times in ruku’, ten times in i’tidal, ten times in sujud, ten times while sitting & ten times in sujud again, making 75 times in the that second raka’at. It is best to read one Surah Ikhlas after Fatihah in that raka’at.

After that, make your do’as and ask Allah to grant you his Love, the Love of those He Loves, and the Love of the Actions, that lead you to His Love.

Do also remember always to recite al-Fatihah for the good health and long life of Sultanul Awliya Shaykh Nazim Al Haqqani, for the continued recovery and improvement of Shaykh Adnan Kabbani’s health, and for the Pure Soul of Shaykh Raja Ashman Shah (q). May Allah support us always, with the support that He bestows upon them. Ameen.

Connect your heart to the heart of our master Sultanul Awliya Maulana Shaykh Nazim, in Muroqabah, after that.

Naqshbandi Adab of Tarawih by Shaykh Adnan Kabbani

DSC_0068.JPGThe full sequence of Tarawih, as done by our beloved Mawlana Shaykh Adnan Kabbani

After Azaan of Ishaa (full version, with the Salawats at the end), the 4 rak’aat sunnah (can be done in sets of 2) before Ishaa is done, followed by Ishaa Fard, and the sunnah after Ishaa. The Shaykh, as always, is clad in loose Naqshbandi Sunnah clothing, complete with turban (with tail), beard, ring (on the ring finger of his right hand) and his walking stick, which he often places in front of him, or to one side, when he is in prayer.

Before starting the Tarawih prayer

As with every amal, Shaykh begins with the recitation Ta’awuz and Basmalah, and 3 Shahadahs, 100 Istighfar, and three times Surah Ikhlas. He said that any Fardh prayer or Qur’an recitation that does not begin with this, is rejected, as one must renew ones faith, be clean and be sincere before starting any good deed.

Shaykh Adnan then makes this intention to fast, just before the Tarawih prayer every night of Ramadan.

He says:

“I am intending to fast in Ramadan tomorrow, (he mentions the day, i.e. Wednesday), for the sake of Allah Almighty, and upon the intention of GrandShaykh and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, and I am intending its reward to be given to Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم as a gift and Mawlid to him, to be kept in His ‘bank’, till the Day of Yaum’ul Qiyamah.”

He then makes intention to perform 20 Raka’ats of Tarawih and 3 Raka’at of Witr with the same niyyah (intentions) above.

He then reads:

  • Liqo’ullahi yurja fissiyam, wa nurul qalbi fil qiyam (Shaykh raises his hands like in du’a, and wipes his face at this time), ta’alallah zhul arshil majeed (Shaykh raises his hands higher than the first time, and wipes his face again.)
  • Assolatul jami’a, solatut-terawihi athaabakumullah
  • Annabi yash fa’u limay yu solli ‘alaih, allahumma solli ‘ala Muhammadin wa ‘ala ‘alihi Muhammadin wasallim
  • Allahumma inna nas alukal jannata, wa na ‘uzubika minannar
  • Ya Subhaan

First set of two rak’aats

The Shaykh then uses his miswak/siwak, as he does for every solat, do’a and recitation of the Qur’an that he performs. He then leads two very short raka’ats in which only 2 to 3 Ayats of a Surah are read after Surah al-Fatihah. This is done for the entire 20 raka’ats, so that it is completed quickly, and this is the Sunnah of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, so that weak and old members of the congregation, sick ones, children, nursing mothers and busy people are not burdened by a very long prayer.

In each raka’at, the Shaykh begins with an inaudible Ta’awuz (A’uzubillah…) and an audible Basmalah, before reading Surah al-Fatihah. He then goes onto the reading of the Surah, without reading Ta’awuz or Basmalah again.

After finishing the first two raka’ats, the Shaykh reads:

  • Liqo’ullahi yurja fissiyam, wa nurul qalbi fil qiyam (Shaykh raises his hands like in do’a, and wipes his face at this time), ta’alallah zhul arshil majeed (Shaykh raises his hands higher than the first time, and wipes his face again.)
  • Assolatul jami’a, solatut-terawihi athaabakumullah
  • Annabi yash fa’u liman yu solli ‘alaih, allahumma solli ‘ala Muhammadin wa ‘ala ‘alihi Muhammadin wasallim
  • Ya Sultaan

Second set of two raka’ats

Again beginning with the miswak, and leading very short raka’ats, the Shaykh concludes the prayer and reads after concluding this second set of Tarawih prayers:

  • La ila ha illallah hu wahdahu lasharikalah, lahul mulku walahul hamdu, yuhyi wa yu meetu, wa huwa ‘ala kulli shain ing qadeer.
  • Subhanallahi walhamdulillahi wa la ila ha illallah hu allahu akbar. Wa la haula wa la quwwata illa billahil ‘aliyyil azheem. (Glory be to Allah, and praise is due to Allah, and there is no God but Allah, and Allah is the greatest. And there is no power and strength except in Allah, the Exalted, the Sublime.)
  • Subhanallahi ‘adada khaliqihi, wa ridho nafsihi, wa zeenata arshihi, wa midaa da kalimatih. (Glory be to Allah, as much as the number of His Creations, as much as is pleasing to Him, and as much as the Weight of his Throne, and as much as the ink (which would be used to write) His Words.)

Salat’ul Witr

Except for Witr prayers on the night of the 15th and 16th of Ramadan, the Shaykh prays this as a 3 raka’at prayer with one salaam at the end, just as Mawlana Shaykh Nazim does it. However, on the nights of the 15th and 16th of Ramadhan, the Shaykh prays Witr as a 2 raka’at prayer plus a 1 raka’at prayer. The reasons are explained in the next heading.

The Imam reads aloud for all three raka’ats, including the Du’a Qunoot.

  • In the first raka’at, after Surah Fatihah, Shaykh reads Surah al-Ikhlas.
  • In the second raka’at, after Surah Fatihah, Shaykh reads Surah al-Falaq.
  • In the final raka’at, after Surah Fatihah, Shaykh reads Surah an-Nas.

He reads the Du’a Qunoot in the final raka’at of Witr prayer, throughout all of Ramadan.

In addition to the Du’a Qunoot that is read in local mosques, Shaykh Adnan adds the following verses to the Du’a Qunoot (which are also read in Fajr prayers).

  • Allahummak shif ‘anna minal balaa ya ma la yakshifuhu ghayruk. (Oh Allah! Lift from us trials which no one can but You can.)
  • Allahumas qinal ghaytha suqya rahmatin wa la taj ‘alna minal qaniteen. (Oh Allah! Give us to drink from the rain of Your Mercy, and let us not be of the despondent.)
  • Rabbighfir warham wa anta khayrur rahimeen. (Lord, forgive and have Mercy, for you are the Most Merciful.)
  • Allahummaf tah lana mil-ladungka fathan qareeban, wa anta khayrul fatiheen. (Oh Allah! Open for us a manifest closeness, for You are the best of Openers)
  • Allahumma innaka ‘afuwun kareem tuhibbul, ‘afwa fa’ fu anna wa yardha anna ya Kareem. (Oh Allah, You Love to forgive generously, so please forgive me and be pleased with me, O Generous One).
  •  (Of the wrongdoers, the last remnant was cut off. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds.) (Surah Al-An’am 6:45)

Witr on the nights of the 15th and 16th of Ramadan

As mentioned above, on these nights, the Witr prayer is split into a 2 raka’at prayer and a 1 raka’at prayer. This is in honour of the middle of Ramadan, as on the 16th night, Sayyidina Jibrail (as), together with 5000 Angels, descend to the earth and give salaams to the believers, and they will remain on earth till Fajr after the Night of Power (Laylatul Qadr).

On the night of the 16th and on the night of Laylatul Qadr, after reciting Surah Fatihah, Shaykh Adnan recites Surah ‘Ala in the first raka’at, Surah Kafiroon in the second, and the remaining 3 Quls in the final raka’at.

After the 2 raka’at prayer is completed, the Shaykh reads:

  • Allahumma solli ‘ala Muhammadin wa ‘ala ‘alihi Muhammadin wasallim
  • Ya Ahad.

He then completes the final raka’at of Witr, reciting Surah al-Fatihah and Surah an-Nas, as well as Qunoot.
